Many of us have been subjected to those annoying phone calls from illegal scammers trying to sell something, steal your identity or extort money by claiming to be from the IRS or other government agencies.
According to estimates, scammers and thieves use computerized systems to make approximately 4 billion calls a month in the U.S. These are known as robocalls since they are recorded messages sent by auto-dialers.
While some of these calls are legal—such as those from the Red Cross or local politicians—many are not. But there are steps you can take to limit those calls from coming to you, thereby keeping your personal information protected:
- Don’t answer calls from numbers you don’t know. That tells the robocall system the line is valid. If the call is important, someone will leave a message.
- Learn what tools your carrier (such as AT&T®) offers by contacting them directly.
- Use call blocking solutions on your phone.
- And most importantly, remember that Bronco and every other legitimate business or government agency out there will never call you to ask for personal information.
