Hometown Heroes – Trina Johnson

Our teammates set us apart, bringing that warm, familiar feeling to life every time you walk through the doors at Bronco. To help you get to know them better, we spotlight a team member in each Hometown newsletter.

This issue’s Hometown Hero is someone who has been part of the Bronco family for nearly three decades: Trina Johnson, our Core System Administrator.

Back in 1997, a previous supervisor encouraged her to make the move to Bronco, and she quickly found the credit union culture to be a natural fit. What started as a new opportunity grew into a career built on loyalty, innovation and a dedication to both her coworkers and our members.

With experience on the front line and in operations, Trina has developed a unique perspective that allows her to make life easier for our staff and, in turn, improve the member experience. Her role keeps the credit union’s core systems running smoothly, but she’s also at the helm of exciting new projects that will enhance how members connect with Bronco—from fresh online and mobile platforms to self-service tools like Skip-A-Pay and Quick Pay. Every challenge she tackles has one goal in mind: making Bronco better for those we serve.

How long have you been with Bronco? What led you to join the team?

I’ve been with Bronco for 27 years. A previous supervisor from a previous financial institution pretty much recruited me, and I felt that I would like the credit union culture. Things seemed to be growing here.

What makes you good at what you do?

I believe that, having worked on the front lines before transitioning to the operations side, I gained a clear understanding of how the entire organization operates. As a result, I’m always looking for ways to make the front-line staff’s job more efficient, which in turn should improve our member experience.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working in technology each day is different, and I enjoy that element. Each day brings a new challenge to work through, whether it’s addressing system issues or helping my coworkers overcome a challenge they’re facing.

We understand you’re the Core System Administrator. Tell us more about your role, as well as your work as project manager on upcoming products and services.

In my role as Core System Admin, I’m responsible for our core system., which is the system our front line staff uses for all interactions with our members (e.g. Transactions or Account functions) and also our Loan Operating System. That role keeps both of those systems functioning and updated. Next, we have some very exciting new products/features coming that I’m the project lead on, which I’m working with a large team on to convert our Online banking to one of the newest digital banking platforms out there. We’ll also introduce new self-service tools on our website for our members, including Skip-A-Pay, which we have been mailing to members previously. We’ll also be introducing a Quick Pay option, which will enable our members to make payments on their loans at Bronco online using accounts from other financial institutions or pay by card. Our goal is to introduce new tools that enhance the experience for our current and future members.

What do you think draws people to Bronco?

We still maintain a local feel, offering customer service and some of the most competitive loan and deposit rates in the area. We still make all our decisions right here; there are no corporate decisions to wait on.

What does Bronco’s “Welcome Home” tagline mean to you?

When you walk in the door, someone will recognize you and stop to carry on a conversation, as many of the employees were born and raised in the area. If we don’t know you, we’ll make a point to get to know you! It truly feels like home at Bronco.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I’m married with two sons (26 and 24), and anything those three have going on, I am right there. My husband and I are very involved in a youth baseball organization, and I enjoy all my time spent with all those kids and families, watching those babies grow from 4-year-olds to 14-year-old young adults just makes this baseball mom’s heart happy!
